In April 2015, changes were announced by the Australian Charities and Not for-profits Commission (ACNC) regarding non-government schools reporting procedures. One of these changes is that they will not have to directly provide any financial information to the ACNC for the 2014 and 2015 reporting period in addition to DET reports.
The Australian Education Act 2013 (Cth) requires non-government schools to submit annual financial questionnaires to the Department of Education and training (DET) However,The ACNC commissioner, Susan Pascoe AM, has agreed to accept these questionnaires to meet the financial reporting requirements as a means of removing unnecessary and ‘duplicate administrative requirements’ to effectively ‘streamline’ the current approach.
The ACNC has also released guidance to assist schools with the changes and to ensure all non-government schools are able to comply with the transitional reporting arrangements.
Will this apply to your school?
The transitional reporting arrangement will not apply to:
- funds or organisations associated with non-government school who are registered separately with the ACNC, have their own ABN and do not lodge separate financial questionnaires with the DET; and
- Representative entities with organisations not related to primary or secondary education such as churches, community centres and day care centres.
Such entities will still be required to fill out the financial information on their Annual Information Statement.
How can I participate?
